Vanessa Feltz and Lizzie Cundy both brought to tears as they reflect on the breakdown of their marriages to ex-husbands Michael Kurer and Jason

Vanessa Feltz and Lizzie Cundy broke into tears on Monday, as they reminisced about the collapse of both their marriages on Vanessa’s daytime TV show.
Vanessa, 63, was previously married to consultant orthopaedic surgeon Michael Kurer for 16 years, tying the knot in 1983 and welcoming daughters Allegra, 38, and Saskia, 35, before their divorce in 2000.
While, Lizzie, 56, became a WAG when she married former footballer Jason Cundy in 1994 and they became parents to sons Josh, 29, and James, 25, before splitting in 2012.
During the latest episode of Vanessa’s Channel 5 show, a caller named Julia told them about how she was still struggling with her divorce 40 years later.
Reflecting on her own marriage breakdown, Vanessa became visibly emotional as she admitted it causes your heart to break, and doesn’t always mend with time.
She said: ‘I can almost feel it being broken and just like Julie’s still crying nearly 40 years later, it doesn’t necessarily just snap back together.

‘I think it depends how wholeheartedly you believed in the marriage, if you really thought – I know I really did – that you’re doing this forever and ever and every word spoke is true, is basically going from your mouth right to the angels, because you are properly truly in love and this is going to last forever and all the promises are real.
‘Then when you think about it the way Julie is, I’m not in the least bit surprised she’s crying now.’
Lizzie also was brought to tears, as she admitted: ‘It’s make me cry now actually, it really is. Because you want it to be forever, you get married for it to be forever and that’s what I felt Vanessa.
‘And I was like you at a friend’s wedding and found myself overcome with emotion because I hoped my marriage would last forever.’
Later on in the show, she recalled the end of her marriage to Jason, saying: ‘At the time it broke my heart.
‘As I said, I think I had a breakdown, I didn’t eat, I lost an incredible amount of weight. I was very upset and Vanessa you were there and supporting me very much.’
However, she explained that she has been able to move past the hurt and built a strong friendship with Jason now, saying: ‘But life moves on and I say to everyone, make friends.
‘There’s no point being bitter and angry and that does go. And when I see him now, I don’t think of that at all.’

Lizzie and Jason split when he met Opera singer Hannah Pedley, who he would later to go on to marry and welcome a son with.
Following Jason’s infidelity, an emotional Lizzie told OK!: ‘I’ve never been on my own and it’s very frightening. I feel so betrayed. I’ve had panic attacks and I feel like my right arm has been cut off.
‘I’m so shocked at how hideous he is being. I don’t know him any more and I’ve been married to him for so long. That’s the thing that hurts the most.’
In 2019 Lizzie she opened up on her heartbreaking split during an appearance on This Morning, saying: ‘I was hiding a lot of pain and I wouldn’t wish divorce on anyone.’
The former WAG also revealed she had enjoyed a secret romance with a well-known sports star which had helped her endure the pain of her divorce in 2012.
She said: ‘I did fall for someone very quickly after my divorce and it didn’t work out and it really did knock my confidence, a really well-known sports star. Sadly he didn’t feel the same way it really was really traumatic for me.
‘He’s in the book it was a big part of my life. In some ways it helped my get through my divorce, I know I was quite low, it was pretty tough and I didn’t want to live at times.
‘But I’ve got two wonderful boys and life is great, never been better at the moment.’

After enduring a bitter divorce, Jason and Lizzie are now firm friends and have worked through their differences.
She previously told MailOnline: ‘I would definitely invite my ex-husband to my wedding if I were to marry again.
‘People might think that is strange after we had such a bitter split and divorce but we have learnt it’s much better to be friends than enemies, especially as we share two lovely children together.
‘For me, it was 17 years of good marriage, which is a success to me.’
Meanwhile, Vanessa opened up on her former marriage to Lizzie once again last month, in the first episode of their new podcast, Loving and Living with Mike Parry.
She admitted that she ‘feels less whole’ without a husband and that she missed being married to Michael, despite his infidelity.
Vanessa said: ‘I was extremely happy in my marriage and I didn’t realise anything was wrong until one day he announced in a sort of Dalek voice, “I do not rule out the possibility of a divorce” just like that.
‘I was peeling potatoes and his mum was coming over for lunch. He left within a few weeks and I just didn’t know why.’

Explaining how the truth was revealed, she continued: ‘But, Piers Morgan heard the news my husband had left and he just though “that sounds really weird” so he got a journalist to follow him and that’s how I found out he was having an affair.’
When asked what she thought about being in a ‘permanent relationship’ again, Vanessa replied: ‘If it’s the right partner, boyfriend, someone you can trust then your life will be enhanced with that relationship. So do I prefer a relationship, yes.’
She continued: ‘But life has taught me the hard way that a relationship with the wrong person… it is possible to feel lonelier than you would be on your own.
‘You think gosh what if I meet someone worse, or never meet anyone again. A lot of people are scared to leave relationships and I have been that person
‘What’s interesting about taking a cheat back is for about ten seconds they are terribly sorry and then ten second later, they are back in, and they’ve forgotten.
‘The trust is shot to tell and one person is bristling with fury. All of it is not much cop. Do I believe people should get second chances yes, but do I think a leopard changes its spots? Probably not.
‘You just wish that if someone didn’t want to be with you, they would just end it.’
But she candidly confessed she would like to find love again, saying: ‘I like someone to love and I like someone to love me. Without that I feel less whole and less content. I like having somebody who is part of your team.’
