Troubled former NFL star Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson says he has been dumped by his therapist

Ex-NFL player Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson has been dumped by his therapist for ‘using derogatory language uncontrollably’, he has revealed in an emotional social media post.

The 47-year-old, who played the majority of his career for the Cincinnati Bengals, has faced struggles in the past.

He was arrested in 2012 on domestic violence charges after allegations were made by his then-wife, Evelyn Lozada, and they divorced soon after. He served a week in jail in 2013 when, at the hearing where he pleaded no contest to claims he headbutted Lozado, he slapped his male attorney’s buttocks.

On Tuesday, alongside a broken heart emoji, Johnson wrote on X: ‘Good morning, my therapist just terminated our remaining sessions & sent my deposit because I haven’t improved & I’m still using derogatory language uncontrollably at times.’

Johnson has previously said that he doesn’t drink because his later mother had struggles with alcohol.

‘Growing up, my mom was an alcoholic and she would drink, extremely heavily,’ he said last year. ‘Seeing her become someone I didn’t even recognize when she was consumed with alcohol was probably a reason why I stayed away from it when I was younger.’

In 2021 Johnson made an emotional appearance on the ‘I AM ATHLETE’ podcast where he wept while reflecting on his mother’s death, which occurred only a month before he recorded the show.

‘It hurts to lose the person responsible for who I am,’ Johnson said. ‘Those memories will always be there.

‘I have the memories, both good and bad. I’ve learned through the ups and downs that I have to find that happy medium and keep the pendulum from swinging too far in either direction.’

Johnson is still heavily involved in the NFL through media work after his career came to an end in 2012.

He was at the Super Bowl in New Orleans earlier this month and posed questions to Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles stars on opening night.
