The shock UFC fighter who dropped Jon Jones in sparring revealed

  • Former MMA star Carlos Condit revealed Jon Jones was dropped in sparring
  • UFC heavyweight king has never been knocked down in his professional career

Jon Jones was once dropped by a unknown MMA fighter during sparring, a former team-mate of the UFC heavyweight champion has claimed.

Jones has suffered just one defeat in his illustrious career when he was disqualified against Matt Hamill for utilising illegal 12-6 elbows, a move that has since been removed from the sport’s list of banned techniques.

Other than the solitary blemish on his record Jones has been largely dominant inside the Octagon, with a contentious decision win over Dominick Reyes in 2020 representing arguably his most competitive fight.

However, according to former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit, Jones has faced his fair share of adversity inside the gym.

Appearing on the Jaxxon Podcast hosted by Jones’ former opponent Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Condit revealed he had sparred Jones frequently during their time together at Jackson Wink MMA.

Asked whether anyone has ever gotten the better of the pound-for-pound mainstay during their time together, Condit confirmed that a former UFC fighter had dropped Jones during a sparring session.

‘When John was a lot skinnier before he started, put weight on, before he started to find his power and start sitting down on his punches. I sparred Jon a lot.’ Condit said.

‘Then once he started sitting down on his punches and finding his power, I stopped doing that.’

He continued: ‘One morning, I think it was like a it’s like Tuesday morning, like 9am sparring. We’re in there, tipping and tapping. We get this dude.

‘I don’t know if you guys have ever heard of Adlan Amagov. He’s Chechen, and he fought in the UFC a couple times. His last fight, they carried his opponent out on a stretcher.

‘But yeah, he finished a number of guys. He was like a spinning back kick guy, and he f***** me up.

‘And then I think a round or two later, he hit Jon with that spinning back kick.’

Asked by Jackson whether the kick had dropped Jones, Condit responded in the affirmative.

After moving from war-torn Russian republic of Chechnya to Moscow as a youth, Amagov began training alongside MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko.

Amagov won eight of his first ten professional fights in Russia, before signing with now-defunct American promotion strikeforce in 2011.

During his time in Strikeforce Amagov competed in the middleweight division and amassed three wins from four fights, including a KO of future UFC title challenger Anthony Smith, before joining the UFC in 2013.

The 38-year-old won his first three fights in the Octagon, before unexpectedly retiring from MMA after reportedly growing tired in competing in the sport.

Despite this he returned for a final fight in 2016, submitting Dirlei Broenstrup in the first round in a light heavyweight bout.
