Revealed: Phil Gould’s sales pitch to Donald Trump to watch NRL in Las Vegas – following a weekend video message to the President from ARLC boss Peter V’Landys

Phil Gould has raised eyebrows following his Artificial Intelligence (AI) inspired sales pitch to Donald Trump on X ahead of the NRL double header in Las Vegas next month.

The Bulldogs supremo tweeted a lengthy post on Tuesday highlighting why the US President would love the greatest game of all, live in Sin City, on March 1 local time.

It comes as Peter V’Landys – the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) boss – also issued a call to arms to Trump, where he was invited to see ‘the toughest game on earth’ in the flesh.

Gould’s tweet on Tuesday labelled today’s NRL stars ‘winners’, who as professional athletes are ‘built different.’

He went onto point out modern day players ‘hit harder than your Secret Service, run faster than your motorcade and draw bigger crowds than your rallies.’

In classic Gould fashion he wasn’t finished yet, stating ‘nobody runs faster and puts on a better show’, before adding his belief that rugby league is Simply The Best, a reference to Tina Turner’s iconic track from 1990.

Reaction to Gould’s tweet – which was somewhat tongue in cheek – was mixed on X.

‘You’re embarrassing yourself Gus,’ said one supporter bluntly in response.

Another posted: ‘The games in Vegas have every chance being better than last year’s hit out…. Just need all the cringe promos to stop.’

A third clearly doesn’t want to see President Trump at the footy matches, stating in response: ‘So the NRL, a sporting organisation that regularly suspends players for domestic violence offences, is now inviting a convicted sex offender to attend the Las Vegas round on March 1st.’

Meanwhile on Sunday, V’Landys made a public address to the US President on live television.

‘Good morning, Mr President,’ V’landys said during a video message that was aired on the US talk show Fox and Friends.

‘I know you watch Fox and Friends, which is a great program that is extremely fair and balanced.

‘Mr President, we want to introduce you to the toughest game on earth, rugby league, in the world’s sport and entertainment capital, Las Vegas.

‘We know you love physical, tough contact sports. There’s no sport more brutal than rugby league.

‘Our players don’t wear pads or helmets. As you know, Mr. President, the US has a trade surplus with Australia, one of the rare countries. You attending will balance this out a bit.

‘Hope to see you at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 1. ‘Thank you, Mr. President, thank you, Fox and Friends.’

V’landys had previously been hopeful of introducing Trump to rugby league during this year’s Las Vegas round – and was hopeful NRL superstar Nathan Cleary could play a pivotal role in that bid, boldly comparing the Panthers halfback to seven-time Super Bowl legend Tom Brady.

‘He is the perfect guy to get a following in America,’ he said. ‘He is a once-in-a-generation-player.’

The footy boss has also revealed that the NRL has made an ‘approach through official channels’ in relation to President Trump.

In addition, former NRL star Aaron Woods also appeared on the Fox and Friends show on Sunday morning.

Woods was speaking at the Daytona 500 and had a footy shirt which had ‘Trump’ and the number 25 printed on its back as well as a Steeden footy, featuring the American flag and Trump’s campaign logo.

He also invited the President to the four rugby league fixtures.

‘We want to get him [Trump] to the games, we’ve even got a special ball for President Trump, hopefully, we’ll see him today, we might pass the ball to him,’ Woods said.

It comes as the NRL previously called on pop icon Rick Astley, a huge Warrington Wolves fan, to fly to Vegas to help promote the quartet of matches.

Besides the NRL double header featuring the Raiders, Warriors, Panthers and Sharks, Super League rivals Warrington and Wigan will also square off in the gambling mecca.

And in a historical first, the Jillaroos take on England in a women’s Test match at Allegiant Stadium.
