Pep Guardiola has been hit with a touchline ban after picking up a booking during Manchester City’s FA Cup victory over Bournemouth on Sunday.

City sealed their spot in the semi-finals for a record seventh straight season despite trailing to Evanilson’s strike at the half-time break, Erling Haaland and super sub Omar Marmoush sealing a dramatic turnaround at Vitality Stadium.

The seven-time winners will next face high-flying Nottingham Forest at Wembley in late April as they bid to reach the final for the third consecutive year.

But they were made to progress the hard way on the south coast. Indeed, City missed several golden chances in the first half, including from the penalty spot when Haaland’s spot-kick was saved, and were made to pay via Evanilson’s tap-in.

However, a rejig from Guardiola at the interval flipped the tie on its head with substitute Nico O’Reilly, brought on as a makeshift left back, crossing low for Haaland to equalise before teeing up Marmoush to fire under Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Guardiola’s copybook was blotted after he was booked for dissent by Stuart Atwell.

Furious after Haaland went down injured following a tangle with Lewis Cook, Guardiola made his feelings clear to the fourth official.

Haaland’s ankle was trapped underneath Cook before he clattered into an advertising board, bringing an early end to his game despite his attempt to continue.

Guardiola had previously picked up cautions against Arsenal and Fulham and his third booking of the season means he will now not be on the touchline when City welcome relegation-threatened Leicester City on Wednesday night.

In a further blow for City, Haaland is also likely to miss out. The frontman, who has scored 30 goals across all competitions this campaign, limped away from the Vitality Stadium on crutches and was also spotted wearing a protective boot.

As reported by Mail Sport, Haaland underwent initial tests on Monday morning and is heading for a specialist to confirm the full extent of the setback.

City are hopeful he will play some part over the remainder of the season, which also includes the new-look Club World Cup in the United States, starting from mid-June.

When asked about the seriousness of the injury, Guardiola said: ‘I don’t know yet. I saw him on the massage table but I didn’t speak with him or the doctors.

‘We will have to see.’

Guardiola believes his City players rediscovered their ‘heart and soul’ to progress in the FA Cup. ‘What we missed this season was heart, soul, the desire from how we’d done it for many, many years,’ he told reporters post-match.

‘For a manager the most important thing to recover this passion.

‘The legendary players who have given the most incredible things for the club, they made the step up again with an excellent performance.

‘I am really pleased to be back at Wembley for a seventh time in a row – this is an incredible achievement.’
