Paul Scholes pinpoints reason for Rasmus Hojlund struggles amid 18-game goal drought – as Man United legend explains how the striker can turn his form around

Man United legend Paul Scholes believes Rasmus Hojlund needs to adapt his movement as the forward seeks to turn his form around.
Hojlund is currently on an 18-match goal drought and the Danish forward has been taken off in recent matches to be replaced by teenage striker Chido Obi.
The Danish forward, who was signed for £72million by Man United in the summer of 2023, has struck just twice in the Premier League this season.
Hojlund has, however, had better fortune in front of goal in the Europa League where he has scored five times in eight matches.
Speaking ahead of Man United’s last-16 tie against Real Sociedad, club legend Scholes expressed his view that Hojlund’s movement might be contributing to his struggles.
He claimed Hojlund must look to remain central to get on the end of chances and aim to end his goal drought.

Paul Scholes suggested the forward’s movement could be a reason for his current struggles

Scholes suggested Hojlund needs to stay central in a bid to get on the end of more chances
‘It is not scoring goals he has not been getting chances either, Obi has got chances, is it the service?’ Scholes said on TNT Sports.
‘I am starting to think it is his movement as he is not getting the chances.
‘He is not scoring goals but he needs help, I think he runs too much.
‘Sometimes you have to do that, but I am saying stay up front and in the middle.
‘I don’t think he is great at linking play, use what you have got.’
Hojlund was chosen to lead the line for Man United in their last-16 first leg away in Spain, as the Red Devils bid to salvage their season in the Europa League.
Man United boss Ruben Amorim stuck with the Danish forward in attack, supported by Joshua Zirkzee and Alejandro Garnacho.
TNT Sports pundit Karen Carney suggested Hojlund has potentially tried too hard and expressed hope the Europa League could help to rebuild his confidence.

‘It is tough, his confidence has been shattered,’ Carney said.
‘In this competition he has come alive, it may be opposition of him feeling comfortable but you are hoping he kicks off his campaign in this competition again with goals.
‘It is not like he hasn’t tried but sometimes overtrying.’
The Red Devils’ forward options have been limited by Obi being ineligible to play in the Europa League.
The 17-year-old was not added to United’s squad for Europe before the February deadline.
