Mia Brookes: British teenager wins second Crystal Globe title

British snowboarder Mia Brookes has won her second consecutive Crystal Globe Big Air title.

The 18-year-old, who in 2023 became the youngest world champion in snowboard history at the age of 16, secured her first Crystal Globe title in last year’s event.

The Crystal Globe title is awarded to the competitor that amasses the most points from competitions throughout the season.

Brookes sat out Thursday’s event in Aspen, which was the fifth and last big air competition of the snowboard World Cup season.

The teenager watched on from the sidelines as New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski-Synnott secured victory in the big air final.

A seventh-placed finish for Mari Fukada meant Brookes finished level with the Japanese snowboarder on 305 points in the overall standings.

But as a result of Brookes’ two wins this season, the teenager was awarded the Crystal Globe title to make it back-to-back victories.

“I thought maybe I’d finish second if I was lucky, but definitely not a win,” said Brookes.

“It’s really special when you’ve worked so hard over the season.”
