The Los Angeles Chargers are releasing Joey Bosa in order to save $25million in cap space, the organization said on Wednesday night.
The Chargers said the move ‘is a tough one’ with the No 3 pick of the 2016 Draft now looking for a new team ahead of the 2025 season after nine years in Los Angeles.
The 29-year-old Bosa has struggled with injuries over the past three years but is considered one of the best linebackers in the league.
Bosa won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2016 and recorded 72 regular season career sacks.
Joey’s younger brother, Nick, plays as a defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers and a move to the 2023 Super Bowl runners-up is a possibility.
The Chargers made the playoffs last season – their first campaign under head coach Jim Harbaugh – but were beaten by the Houston Texans, 32-12, in the first round.
