Talking nominees: Best Solo Artist
We are now in our fourth year since the ARIAs combined best female act and best male act together.
Back in 2021 when the change was made ARIA CEOÂ Annabelle Herd said the time for separating artist based on gender that excluded non-binary artists had passed.
“The music industry is demanding a more equal, inclusive, safe and supportive space for everyone and ARIA is working hard to achieve that across the ARIA Awards and everything we do.”
Last year the coveted prize went to Troye Sivan who is in the running once again.
This year’s nominees for Best Solo Artist are:
- Amy Shark — Sunday SadnessÂ
- Angie McMahon — Light, Dark, Light Again
- Dom Dolla — Saving UpÂ
- Emma Donovan — Till My Song Is DoneÂ
- Kylie Minogue — Tension
- The Kid LAROI — THE FIRST TIME [DELUXE VERSION]
- Tkay Maidza — Sweet JusticeÂ
- Tones And I — Beautifully OrdinaryÂ
- Troy Cassar-Daley — Between The Fires
- Troye Sivan — Something To Give Each Other
Should Troye win again? Or is there someone else you have your eye on? Let us know with a comment!

Who’s up for Album of the Year?
We’ll get into the who’s who, but here’s the nominees:
- Amy Shark — Sunday SadnessÂ
- Angie McMahon — Light, Dark, Light Again
- Kylie Minogue — Tension
- Royel Otis — PRATTS & PAIN
- Troye Sivan — Something To Give Each Other
Amy Shark seems like the one to beat. The Gold Coast-bred pop-rock artist has won eight ARIAs (from 29 career nods), including this category, where she’s back with her third album, Sunday Sadness.Â
Kylie needs little introduction. Nor should Troye Sivan, the Perth-born pop star who’s made a big splash overseas in the past year.
Then you’ve got the indie acts: Angie McMahon, a sensitive singer-songwriter from Melbourne/Naarm, and Sydney duo Royel Otis, who are up for the most ARIA Awards this year, with eight nominations total.
