Live: Stocks tumble as Trump’s tariffs on China, Canada and Mexico loom

Good morning! I’ll be joining you to bring you through the first few hours of blogging.

And as it stands, things aren’t looking good on Wall Street.

With less than an hour of trade to go, the S&P 500 is at a session low, down more than 100 points, and there are falls of more than 2 per cent on the Nasdaq.

That’s as hopes of a last minute tariff reprieve faded, with US President Donald Trump set to hit China, Canada and Mexico with new import charges on Tuesday, US time.

Locally, the future of casino operator Star Entertainment remains in the balance, with shares suspended for trade as the company confirmed yesterday it was yet to secure funding to stay afloat.

And the Reserve Bank will release the minutes of its February board meeting, which should provide some more detail of why it cut rates for the first time in several years — although how much detail is there left to give really?

Stick with us, and if you’re in Queensland stay safe and drive (and up to date on Tropical Cyclone Alfred here).

I’ll be here blogging.
