Live: Smith and Khawaja look to build mammoth first innings in Sri Lanka

First Test live: Sri Lanka vs Australia in Galle

Quick hits from day one in Galle

If you’re after more of a refresher on how things went down on the opening day, I suggest you read our quick hits from day one.

Everything from Ricky Ponting slamming selection, to Sri Lanka’s sloppy fingers and poor reviews were covered off.

An early start time on day two

Just a reminder that we’ll be starting 15 minutes early today after play ended early due to rain yesterday.

Play will get underway at 3.15pm AEDT, which is in roughly 12 minutes’ time.

Where things stand ahead of day two

Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith will resume at the crease on day two, with their partnership currently at 195 runs.

I’ll be very interested to see what Sri Lanka’s tactics are with the ball, a new one at that, after they were very poor last night.

I’m hoping the bowlers have enjoyed some Kothu and Iced Milo overnight – if you’ve never been to Sri Lanka, this is one of the best combinations of food and drink you can ever have.

There is a positive for Sri Lanka. Last time these two sides played in Galle, Smith and Marnus Labuschagne both scored centuries and put on a partnership of 134.

In that first innings, Australia went from 2-204 to 364 all out and Sri Lanka went on to win the match by an innings.

The situation is certainly more dire this time around, but a solid first session can get the home side back into the game.

Welcome!

Good afternoon and welcome to ABC Sport’s live coverage from day two of the first Test between Sri Lanka and Australia.

The tourists dominated proceedings in Galle after winning the toss on day one, with centuries to Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith leading to a mammoth score of 2-330 at stumps.

If you missed any of the action, here’s yesterday’s live blog so you can catch it all as it happened.
