Salesi Foketi facing ban for high shot

It was a careless high tackle that put the Roosters on the back foot and almost saw the Panthers come within a whisker of getting a dramatic win yesterday.

But now Roosters youngster Salesi Foketi is facing a one-match ban, which will be upgraded to two if he unsuccessfully challenges at the judiciary.

I think it’s a bit rough on Foketi – I think there were worse shots that went unpunished yesterday – but that’s the way the cookie has crumbled.

The only other charge to come from Friday’s matches was Manly’s Jazz Tevanga, who was cited for contrary conduct and can accept a fine of $1,800,

What happened yesterday?

Well, Friday night delivered in spades for the NRL, with the Warriors and Roosters recording huge upset wins over the Sea Eagles and Panthers respectively.

There were injuries to both of the sides that lost – Tom Trbojevic (hamstring tightness) and Daly Cherry-Evans (back spasm) for the Sea Eagles and Dylan Edwards (groin) for the Panthers.

Hello folks and welcome to ABC Sport’s coverage of the NRL this sunny* Saturday!

My name is Simon Smale and I am thrilled to be with you here today for a triple header of action as round two of the NRL continues.

Thanks, as ever, for being with me today. I’m looking forward to another thrilling day of action.

First up we’re by the seaside in Wollongong, where it looks absolutely gorgeous with the waves rolling in gently behind the stands as the Dragons welcome the Rabbitohs.

After that, we switch our attentions to the far north where the Cowboys will hope to bounce back emphatically against a Sharks team no doubt hoping to build on their first-round win.

Then it’s off to Canberra, where the Raiders and the Broncos go head-to-head in the match of the day.

It’s so warm in Wollongong that they’re having drinks breaks in the NSW Cup match between the Dragons and Souths, so let’s whet our appetite for a big afternoon of action with some news from around the grounds.

*Location dependent, it looks nice in Wollongong anyway…
