Sydney felt the seismic power of true thrash metal supremacy as Cavalera, the Brazilian titans of heavy music, unleashed their ferocious Third World Trilogy tour on Saturday, January 17, 2025. This wasn’t just a concert—it was a riotous celebration of metal’s primal spirit, an auditory assault that left no survivors and no doubts about the enduring legacy of Max and Igor Cavalera.
The night began with local heroes Algor Mortis, an extreme metal outfit led by the unstoppable Cecilia Keane, whose commanding vocals and feral energy captivated the crowd from the opening riff. Their blistering set not only warmed up the room but set it ablaze, proving the Australian metal scene is a force to be reckoned with. By the time they finished, Liberty Hall was primed for destruction.
At 10:05 PM, the lights dimmed, and the iconic word Cavalera illuminated the backdrop, triggering an eruption of deafening roars. The trio – Max, Igor Graziano, and Igor Amadeus Cavalera – stormed the stage, launching straight into “The Curse” followed by the unrelenting “Bestial Devastation.” The crowd erupted, a sea of headbanging maniacs and mosh-pit warriors, as Max commanded, “Open this pit up!” What followed was pure carnage, a swirling vortex of fists, bodies, and adrenaline.
The atmosphere was a time capsule to the golden age of thrash metal. Fans weren’t there to document the moment on their phones—they were living it. It was raw, untamed, and gloriously chaotic.
The set-list was a masterclass in Sepultura history, pulling heavily from Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation, with Max donning his vintage leather and studs like a thrash general rallying his troops. The unrelenting barrage of classics like “Mayhem,” “Funeral Rites,” and “Troops of Doom” made Liberty “Hell” feel too small to contain the unholy energy pouring off the stage.
The pit was relentless—a maelstrom of pure metal violence where bruises became badges of honor. Even from the balcony, the visceral intensity was palpable, with every head in the room banging in unison as Igor’s thunderous drumming reverberated through every bone.
Highlights of the night included the guttural anthem “R.I.P. (Rest in Pain)”, the rallying cry of “Chaos A.D.”, and an epic mash-up that wove “Territory” into a tapestry of pure metal glory. Each track was met with thunderous chants, fists in the air, and devil horns raised high in homage to the legends on stage.
Cavalera saved their final blow for an encore medley of “Morbid Visions,” “Dead Embryonic Cells,” and a reprise of “R.I.P.” The night ended in triumphant chaos, the crowd drenched in sweat and elation, screaming their adoration as the Brazilian legends took their final bow.
