Live: Dolphins players elect to stay home as Cyclone Alfred approaches land

Wayne Bennett backs NRL’s decision to go ahead with Dolphins-Rabbitohs match

South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett has supported the NRL’s move to relocate the Rabbitohs’ match against the Dolphins, as Brisbane prepares for Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Dolphins play with some staying home ahead of cyclone

Tonight’s match between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Dolphins was supposed to be played at Brisbane’s Lang Park.

With Tropical Cyclone Alfred threatening off the south-east Queensland coast, the NRL elected to move the match to Sydney.

However, Kodi Nikorima, Mark Nicholls and Kenny Bromwich elected to stay at home and be with their families as the storm nears landfall.

Nikorima’s wife Bree, who is six months pregnant, was not impressed with the NRL.

“Because a game of football is THAT IMPORTANT,” she wrote in a now-deleted Instagram story.

“Leaving the families behind to ride out the direct line of cyclone alone. Some with no support at all.

“I’m 6 months pregnant with 2 young kids in an area that can flood, disgusting. Do better NRL.”
