Live: Australia hopes for lower-order runs against India as rain returns on day three

Play is officially delayed

But good news!

Cricket will get underway at 9:55am.

Some pre-play stats

Hilton Cartwright cleared of serious injury

Anyone watching the BBL opener last night would have been shocked to see Hilton Cartwright stretchered off after sliding to field a ball on the boundary at Perth Stadium.

The Stars allrounder spent the night in hospital in Perth and underwent scans that cleared him of serious injury, the Melbourne Stars said this morning.

You can read more about Hilton, here.

It’s raining again, by the way

But they’re keeping the covers off for now.

Cool.

Steve Smith is BACK!

There’s a lot to be said about going back to basics.

Steve Smith had seemingly tried everything to rediscover his blistering best form.

It turns out, a shift back to what made him the batting behemoth he was earlier in his career was all it took.

Play is due to begin at 9:50am

Of course, we may not be getting underway at that time, given the groundstaff are still hovering nervously around the covers, which a laying in wait next to the pitch.

So we’ll see.

But in the meantime, we’ve got plenty for you to read about.

The covers are off

In somewhat better news though, the covers are currently off and the players are back out there warming up.

That’s the good news.

Here’s what the radar is looking like.

Scattered showers will prevail, I fear. Let’s hope we get plenty of play between those clouds.

It is raining everywhere, if that helps

I’m sure we’ll be sent a barrage of comments of the like – “It’s not raining in <insert my local town/city here>“.

Which is lovely, if for no other reason than for us to be vicariously warmed by the rays beating down on your abode.

But it is raining in plenty of other places where cricket is taking place at the moment.

Including New Zealand:

And Hobart.

And I think you’ll agree, if it’s raining in those places then nowhere is safe.

Good (?) morning everyone

Hello and welcome to the Gabba, where we hope to have some action from the third day of the third Test between India and Australia coming up for you at some point.

Unfortunately, it might not be a full, un-interrupted day like we had yesterday.

The wind has come in and there are squally showers drifting across Brisbane and appear set to do so all day.

When I arrived at the ground the covers were on (and I was wet after walking from the bus stop), soon after the sun was out and the players were on the field warming up. Now, the covers are back on and the rain is hammering down.

That’s all taken place over the last half hour.

A portent of a frustrating day to come?

Let’s see, shall we?

Regardless, myself and Jon Healy will do our best to entertain you, while hopefully describing plenty of action as well.
