ASIO seeing ‘way more antisemitism’: Mike Burgess
Asked about antisemitism and Islamophobia on RN Breakfast, Australia’s spy chief says any debate about relative significance “doesn’t sit comfortably for me”.
“Both are wrong,” Mike Burgess says, adding ASIO will investigate any faith-motivated threat with equal seriousness.
But he says “it’s clear right now we are seeing way more Antisemitism in terms of serious situations my organisation is investigating”.
Pressed on the status of those investigations, he says there are multiple separate ones underway.
“There’s no one single mastermind or puppet behind all these incidents… I can see how people say there must be some people offshore directing it… I think sadly some of these are just homegrown incidents…
“We and the police will get to the bottom of this, the police are doing an excellent job and personally, not that what I think matters here, I wish people would just let police do the job and not commentate.”
