Kate Winslet wants to ‘keep things small’ for her 49th birthday: ‘I don’t like big parties, and I can’t stand surprises’
Kate Winslet doesn’t want a ‘big’ birthday celebration.
Although she is preparing to ring in the last year of her forties on Saturday, the 48-year-old actress admitted that she ‘can’t stand’ the idea of a surprise party.
Instead, the Oscar winner hopes to spend the year before her next milestone working her way through a list of ‘remarkable’ things.
‘I don’t like big parties, and I can’t stand surprises. I want to spend the year doing 50 remarkable things, whether that’s a particular hike I’ve never done, or a place I’ve never been, acts of kindness — I’m gathering a little list,’ she told People.
This year, she just wants to ‘to keep things small’ with something ‘quiet.’

While reflecting on her accomplishments, Winslet stated that all women should be able to ‘stand with pride’ and look back on the things that they’ve achieved without coming across as arrogant.
‘The pride I feel is enormous in the things that I have been able to do. And to be able to say that I’m proud of myself matters, because I think that that’s something else I hope to put out there — that women should be able to stand with pride and acknowledge that and not feel like they are bigging themselves up,’ she said.
The mother-of-three continued: ‘It’s a self-acceptance and an awareness of doing something that is challenging and that feels impactful and takes effort like you wouldn’t believe.’
In April, Winslet teased that she didn’t want ‘any presents’ for her 50th birthday and was committed to doing ’50 incredible things for 50′ that were ‘made up of acts of kindness, physical feats and probably something like trying foods I’ve never tried before.’
‘I’d like something like that. We don’t need to keep being given presents, do we? We can just do things, put nice things into the world, that’s better,’ she said while appearing on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio.

During her latest interview with People, she also stated that all women should be able to ‘stand with pride’ and look back on the things that they’ve achieved without coming across as arrogant; seen in 2022 while accepting a Emmy Awards for her role in Mildred Pierce
‘I think women come into their 40s, certainly mid-40s, thinking, “Oh well, this is the beginning of the decline and things start to change and fade and slide in directions that I don’t want them to go in anymore.” And I’ve just decided no,’ she said in 2022 during an interview on BBC Radio 4‘s Woman’s Hour.
She continued: ‘We become more woman, more powerful, more sexy. We grow into ourselves more, we have the opportunity to speak and speak our mind and not be afraid of what people think of us, not care what we look like quite so much. I think it’s amazing.’
