Kansas City Chiefs extend their unbeaten record thanks to outrageous final play against Denver Broncos

The Kansas City Chiefs extended their perfect start to the season to 9-0 after a dramatic ending against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

The Broncos had a 35-yard field goal to win the game with just one second left but Will Lutz’s kick was blocked by Chiefs player Leo Chenal.

That ensured the Chiefs escaped with a 16-14 victory as their bid for a third-straight Super Bowl remains on track. It also means they have now won their last 15 games.

Victory completed a memorable day for Travis Kelce after he sent Arrowhead – and his girlfriend Taylor Swift – wild by breaking a franchise record with his second touchdown of the season.

Kelce has had a slow start to the year by his lofty standards, but caught a much-needed touchdown late in the first half against.

Not only was it hugely important for the team, but it also tied Kelce at No 1 for the most receiving touchdowns in Chiefs history.

The tight end joined the legendary Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez on 76 career touchdowns – and he’s sure to smash through that mark as his career continues.

The Chiefs had taken the lead on Harrison Butker’s field goal with 5:57 remaining, but Bo Nix and the Broncos converted on a trio of third downs while marching right back down field.

They proceeded to set up Lutz for the winner, but Chenal was given credit for coming up the middle amid a big push by the Kansas City defensive line to get his hand on the kick.

Patrick Mahomes finished with 266 yards passing and a touchdown for Kansas City, which became only the fifth team to follow up a Super Bowl triumph by winning its first nine games. That also matches the best start to a season in franchise history.

The Chiefs’ winning streak dating to last season is the longest in the NFL since the Packers won 19 in a row from 2010-11.

Kelce had eight catches for 64 yards and a touchdown for Kansas City. DeAndre Hopkins caught four passes for 56 yards, and Kareem Hunt was held to 35 yards rushing but also caught seven passes for 65 yards.

Nix finished with 215 yards passing and two touchdowns for the Broncos (5-5). Courtland Sutton had six catches for 60 yards and a score, and his 13-yard reception on third-and-6 with 1:45 left gave Denver a chance to kick as time expired.

Swift was back at Arrowhead Stadium to watch Kelce and the Chiefs just six days after turning up to see their win over Tampa Bay on Monday night.

The pop superstar, who will resume her Eras Tour on Thursday night at Rogers Centre in Toronto, had an eventful afternoon.

First, photographers at Arrowhead Stadium were given a stern warning by her security as Swift arrived to watch her boyfriend.

As is customary for Swift’s much-anticipated weekly arrival, hordes of photographers had gathered in the bowels of the stadium to wait for her.

Swift turned up around an hour before the game, but she paused midway through her catwalk as security guards screamed at photographers.

With the popstar wearing a matching red skirt and jacket, those taking photos of her were made to stand up before she got too close to them.

The decision was seemingly made by security in a bid to protect Taylor’s modesty as she walked past.

Then, remarkably, Swift urged her security guard to be polite to onlookers who were desperate to get a glimpse of her as she made her way to the VIP suite.

As Swift got off the cart transporting her, a security guard can be heard shouting at fans nearby, repeatedly saying: ‘Stand back, stand back.’

In a sweet reaction, Swift further strengthened her reputation with fans, snapping back at the security guard and correcting him with a cutting three-word response.

‘Stand back… please,’ she insisted to him, before walking away to continue her journey.

The pop star was accompanied by both her mom Andrea and her dad Scott for the game – which is her 17th time watching boyfriend Travis.
