4 Non Blondes is also playing the Shaky Knees, Ocean’s Calling, and Wonderfront Festivals.

The band’s performance at Bottlerock will be just the second time they’ve reunited since they broke up.

‘It’s not [the right time] and I don’t know when it would [be]. It’s more like, honestly, it’s the right time in my head. It’s the right time in my heart,’ she said in January, per People

‘I’ve been kind of putting that energy out, because I want 2025 to be my year. I want to own this year because I feel like I’ve been planting seeds all over the place and I’m watching my little trees grow.’

The band formed in San Francisco in 1989 and Perry’s first practice with her new bandmates was set for 6:00pm on October 17, 1989, but shortly after 5:00 pm the 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake hit the San Francisco area.

The band’s name came from an experience they had with a blonde family.

According to Christa Hillhouse, ‘Right next to us, there’s a trash receptacle with a piece of pizza on top and the kid wanted to pick it up.

‘The mom said, ‘No, it’s probably dirty, what with the pigeons and people.’ And she stared right at us. We were Non Blondes.’

The band said the experience highlighted the fact that they didn’t fit in with the California stereotype.

4 Non Blondes got their start in the San Francisco lesbian bar scene.

Their 1992 debut album Bigger, Better, Faster, More and the single What’s Up? brought the band success and recognition.

They disbanded in 1994 after just one album over creative differences.

They’ve gotten together just once since then, for a performance at a 2014 fundraiser for the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center.

‘We got this offer [for BottleRock]… and I’m like, “Okay, I knew this was coming.” I want this to happen. I’ve told the universe I want this to happen,’ Perry said.

‘And so it’s coming. So I called up the band, one by one. I said, “Hey, how do you guys feel about this?” And mind you, we don’t talk.

‘But they were excited, and so I’m gonna go hang out with them in San Francisco, rehearse and just dick around. Not really have a plan, but just see how it feels.

Perry also hinted that there is an old, dusty, second 4 Non Blondes album that was never released.

‘I’ve been already brewing… There’s a second 4 Non Blondes record that [was] recorded. I’ll leave it there,’ she said.

‘It was pretty decent. [But] I just couldn’t do it. My heart couldn’t do it. I was in a really bad space during that time, because my feelings get hurt so easily.

‘And so I left the band because my feelings just kept getting hurt and I didn’t know how to deal with it.’
