Hugh Jackman takes on a musical icon alongside Kate Hudson in another stunning Hollywood return after marriage split
He’s best known as Wolverine, but Hugh Jackman is set to return to his roots as a song and dance man for his next Hollywood movie.
The 56-year-old will star alongside Kate Hudson in a quirky new musical called Song Sung Blue.
The film is a drama based on the real-life story of a married couple who won hometown fame after forming a band paying tribute to 70s superstar Neil Diamond.
Variety reports that production on the film began on Monday in the US.
Jackman and Hudson will play Mike and Claire Sardina, a real-life couple from Milwaukee who form a double act called Lightning & Thunder.
Claire was known for her impersonation of famed US country superstar Patsy Cline, while her husband Mike wowed fans with his take on hitmaker Diamond.
While never quite making it big outside of their hometown, the duo once played a support spot for famed rockers Pearl Jam.

Based on the 2008 documentary of the same name by filmmaker Greg Kohs, also called Song Sung Blue, the dramatic musical co-stars The Sopranos star Michael Imperioli, Jim Belushi and Succession’s Fisher Stevens.
The drama will be written and directed by Craig Brewer who is known for the 2011 remake of Footloose.
The title of both projects is a nod to Diamond’s single Song Sung Blue which topped the charts in 1972.

The new film will be a chance for Jackman to show off his famed skill as a song and dance man after his huge success in the Broadway stage musical The Music Man.
Co-star Kate Hudson, 45, is also known as a singer. The Glass Onion actress released her debut single Talk About Love in January.
It comes after Jackman announced he would be returning to his live performance roots with a concert series at Radio City Music Hall in New York City in the new year.
Jackman, who recently split with long-term spouse Deborra-Lee Furness, took to his Instagram Stories last week to share the poster for ‘Hugh Jackman Live from New York with Love.’
The image, which featured the X-Men star smiling in a suit as he walked the street outside Radio City Music Hall, also announced several dates for 2025.
The 12-show run kicks off on January 24.
The concert announcement comes as Hugh learns to navigate life as a single man after ending his marriage to Deborra-Lee Furness, 68, last year.

They announced their split in a joint statement on September 15, 2023.
‘We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,’ they wrote.
‘Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.
‘Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives,’ the statement read.
The exes signed the statement ‘Deb and Hugh Jackman,’ adding: ‘This is the sole statement either of us will make.’
They married on April 11, 1996, less than a year after they met, saying ‘I do’ at a Melbourne church. At the time, he was 27 and she was 41.
Hugh and Deb share two children together: Oscar, 24, and Ava, 19.
