Her wish came true! How Cinderella star Lily James’ 36th birthday cake was decorated with childhood snap of her dressed as a Disney princess

Blowing out the candles on her cake, Lily James was reminded of the little princess she once was – and how her dreams became reality.

The cake, emblazoned with a childhood picture of her dressed as a Disney princess, served as proof she was destined to become a star – and to play one role in particular.

Lily, who starred as Cinderella in Disney’s hit 2015 remake, celebrated her 36th birthday with friends in London on Saturday, looking relaxed in a sleek dress with cut-outs at the waist.

She splashed out on a private dining room at Michelin-starred Italian restaurant Luca, where the fixed menu, including wine pairings, costs nearly £200 per person.

She was joined by close friends including her Mamma Mia! co-star Dominic Cooper, his girlfriend, actress Gemma Chan, and producer Gala Gordon.

‘Keep shining my girl – this is your year,’ Gala wrote on social media.

Gala and Poppy took to Instagram to share pictures showing Lily looking happier than ever as she celebrated her day.

She looked relaxed in a khaki sleeveless dress cut away at the waist, showing off her toned frame.

The Surrey-born star and her friends drank champagne and red wine while feasting on a menu with mouth-watering items including £68 beef ribeye, £49 lamb with spiky artichoke and pine nuts and fresh pasta dishes such as £46 prawn taglierini.

At the end of the meal, Lily was treated to a big white birthday cake adorned with multi-coloured candles, meringue balls and an icing photo of herself as a child in an early acting role.

Gala is an executive producer of Swiped, the film starring Lily as Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of dating app Bumble, due out this year.

Gala is also co-founder of a film production company, Parados Productions, with Lily.

Poppy, 38, shared a video of her and Lily playing around in a lift, with a soundtrack of the quote: ‘You are by the far the baddest, raddest, sexiest, most far-out kick-a** chick that I’ve ever met!’

It is a line said by actor Sebastian Stan as Tommy Lee to Lily’s Pamela Anderson in the 2022 TV series, Pam and Tommy. ‘You really f****** are,’ wrote Poppy, who is heavily pregnant with her first child – a girl – by her billionaire boyfriend, Archie Keswick. ‘Happy birthday beautiful LILS. Love you to Pluto.’

Lily, who has previously been in long-term relationships with actor Matt Smith and US musician Michael Shuman, did not appear to be joined by a date at her birthday bash.

The star’s relationship with Michael was first revealed in February 2021 when they were spotted kissing outside a boutique hotel in England while she filmed What’s Love Got To Do With It.

The Tom & Pammy star was last romantically linked to musician Michael in late 2023.

Currently single, she was pictured last month leaving a restaurant in Paris with Chris Jones, the well-connected brother of film director Emma Holly Jones.

In February, she was photographed leaving a BAFTA party in Mayfair with Hollywood star Glen Powell, and in December last year, she was spotted at the celebrity hangout Chiltern Firehouse with American billionaire Brian Chesky – chief executive of Airbnb.

On her birthday, Lily re-posted her horoscope on her Instagram stories. It read: ‘Be an active participant in your life. Believe in change. Believe that a month, a year can change anything.

‘Believe in new beginnings. Believe in fresh starts. Believe in healing through and beyond. You are not your past. You are not your current circumstances. Believe in renewal.’
