Chelsea’s fans have been left angered with Enzo Maresca after he doubled down on his stance on the club’s current state.
Following Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Brighton in the FA Cup, Maresca risked outrage from fans by saying : ‘If there is something good after a defeat, it is that we can be focused on the Premier League and the Conference League.’
The Blues take on the Seagulls once again on Friday and the Italian has insisted his side is not ready to compete on all fronts.
‘They are 100 per cent fair and one hundred per cent correct,’ he said of the supporters. ‘I grew up watching Chelsea winning games and competitions but this Chelsea is not the same as that one.
‘The reason why I said this is because we are not ready to compete in four competitions in one season at the moment. So we were completely unhappy after the game because we like to win games but as I said, if there is something positive, it is that we can focus on the two competitions that we have now.
‘And it is normal for fans when they have seen their club win titles, titles, titles. It is normal you can react in this way. Our goal, our duty, is to bring this club to win or compete in four competitions but at this moment we are not ready.’

Chelsea fans have once again been left fuming, with some taking to social media to call for Maresca to be axed.
‘You’re complicit in it mate,’ one fan wrote in response to Maresca claiming Chelsea are not the club they once were.
Another said: ‘Just making excuses…you are not fit to coach Chelsea…the club is bigger than you’.
A third posted: ‘Disgustingly negative manager, imagine a top manager was saying all these negative things about where Chelsea will finish! Next he’ll be saying top half will be a good season!!’
‘Seeing Maresca’s quotes are making me feel sick. The clubs full of losers man,’ a fourth posted on X.
Another Chelsea fan added: ‘I CANNOT stand this manager. Get him out.’
Chelsea fans also drew comparisons between Maresca’s comments and Thomas Tuchel, who took the opposite stance during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking in 2021, Tuchel said: ‘I am here to win titles. I’m here to win games and as a result to win titles. This is what i demand of myself so why should we now say anything different that we want to win in five years or in two years or three years. Now is the time.’

Chelsea will go five points clear of fifth-placed Manchester City with a victory at the Amex, with the side also still in the Conference League.
Asked if he is confident the club will return to their previous levels, Maresca continued: ‘Absolutely, yes. This is our goal. In the next five or 10 years this club can compete, no doubt.
‘There are clubs that have been together for three, four, five years but they still struggle.
‘Why should Chelsea, after six months, be winning the Premier League, finish top four or win four competitions? Why?’
