Elle Fanning joins Timothee Chalamet at NYC screening of Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown

Elle Fanning joined co-star Timothee Chalamet at a contenders screening of the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

On Saturday, the special event was hosted by the MoMA to showcase the film about the life of folk legend Bob Dylan as a possible 2025 Oscar contender.

A Complete Unknown is slated to hit theaters on Wednesday, December 25 and has already received mixed reviews from fans and critics.

Saturday’s star-studded event featured a panel with cast members, including Chalamet, Fanning, James Mangold, Boyd Holbrook and Monica Barbaro.

Fanning, 26 — who acts as Sylvie Russo, a character inspired by the famous singer’s 1960s muse — wore a plunging mint-green blouse that teased her lace bra paired with a black flared skirt.

Chalamet, 28 — who portrays a young Dylan in the film — put on a casual display in a dark jacket, black jeans and tan boots.

Just one night prior, the Dune actor shocked fans as he donned straight blonde locks underneath a blue beanie while emulating one of Dylan’s iconic 2003 looks. We can assume the hair color change was likely a wig.

Monica Barbara, 35 — who acts as iconic folk singer Joan Baez in the film — looked glamorous in a black playsuit with puff sleeves and gold buttons.

The movie will see the Dune star portray Bob Dylan and centers on the singer-songwriter’s controversial switch to electric instruments at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.

Chalamet — who will also be joined in the cast by Edward Norton — was confirmed to be doing his own singing in the movie after lending his vocals to his 2023 musical flick Wonka.

A Complete Unknown has already secured three Golden Globe nods: Best Motion Picture — Drama, Best Actor for Chalamet’s portrayal of the 83-year-old singer.

The Critics Choice Awards also nominated the film for Best Picture, Chalamet for Best Actor and Norton for Best Supporting Actor.

Director James Mangold confirmed that he has been working with Bob Dylan on the project and that the Hurricane singer had some personal input into the screenplay.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the filmmaker said: ‘I’ve spent several, wonderfully charming, days in his company, just one-on-one, talking to him.

‘I have a script that’s personally annotated by him and treasured by me. He loves movies. The first time I sat down with Bob, one of the first things he said to me was, “I love Cop Land.”‘

While the picture will cover Dylan’s early years, the Logan director emphasized that Complete Unknown wasn’t strictly a biopic about the musician.

He explained: ‘By the way, it’s not really a Bob Dylan biopic.

‘The reason Bob has been so supportive of us making it, is it’s about, as in all cases I think the best true-life movies are never cradle to grave but they’re about a very specific moment.

‘In this case, it might sound Altman-esque, but it’s a kind of ensemble piece about this moment in time, the early 60s in New York, and this 17-year-old kid with $16 in his pocket hitchhikes his way to New York to meet Woody Guthrie who is in the hospital and is dying of a nerve disease,’ he finished.

Chalamet gave fans a first look at the highly anticipated film’s poster via Instagram in late August just after the first trailer was released, giving fans taste of the New York native in action.

And he has been seen channeling the singer on set on various occasions.

An insider close to the actor shared that a lot is at stake for him: ‘There’s a lot of pressure to get it right. Bob Dylan fans are insane and will tear him [Timothee] apart if he gets it wrong.’

The title — A Complete Unknown — is recognizable from Dylan’s rock anthem which changed his career, Like a Rolling Stone.
