Disgraced celebrity chef Pete Evans celebrates Trump’s anti-vaxxer Secretary of Health pick – after copping fine for flogging debunked ‘Covid cure’

Disgraced celebrity chef Pete Evans has taken to social media to celebrate the appointment of an anti-vaxxer to a top position in the US government.

The former My Kitchen Rules judge, 51, took to Instagram on Friday to share a message from Donald Trump announcing that the president elect had picked Robert F Kennedy Jr as the new US Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Evans, a well-known anti-vaxxer himself, included Trump’s lengthy post in his share but added no comment of his own.

In his message Trump commented: ‘For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health.

Elsewhere in his announcement Trump explained that the HHS will play a ‘big role’ in protecting ‘everybody’ from ‘harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis in this country.’

Kennedy, an environmental lawyer, is a self-declared science sceptic and has created controversy for his opinions, including linking pharmaceutical therapies with disorders such as autism.

Evans, who was once a small screen star, fell from the limelight following a string of controversies stemming from his belief in anti-vaxxer conspiracy theories.

The former TV stars post received a positive reaction from his followers, with some fans even likening the kitchen guru to Kennedy.

‘Hey Pete THANK YOU for being Australia’s RFK,’ gushed one follower.

‘Goosebumps, best news in very long time,’ said one user on Evans post.

‘Brilliant news. Now to clean up Australia,’ added another.

It comes after Evans went shirtless on Instagram on Wednesday to celebrate Donald Trump’s win in the US election.

He displayed his graying chest hair as he enjoyed a gin and tonic and a cigar, all while wearing Trump’s iconic red ‘MAGA’ hat.

‘Another cracker of a day,’ he captioned the post, alongside three orange heart emojis.

After being banned from several mainstream social media sites, Evans now communicates with his fanbase via Telegram, an encrypted messaging app that is often used by conspiracy theorists to broadcast their beliefs.

In May 2020, it was announced that Pete had parted ways with Channel Seven after 10 years as a judge on MKR alongside Manu Feildel.

It effectively marked his break from the mainstream after years of flirting with off-the-wall ideas during his tenure at the network.

Now free from the contractual constraints of mainstream television, Evans began spouting his non-scientific beliefs about vaccines and the Covid-19 pandemic on social media.

He was kicked off Facebook for sharing misinformation in December 2020.

He was also dropped by 15 sponsors and companies in the space of 48 hours last November, after posting a neo-Nazi meme on social media.
