Commonwealth Bank investigating ‘duplicate transactions’ as some customers report negative balances
Commonwealth Bank users are reporting an error which has seen duplicate transactions being taken out their bank accounts, resulting in overdrawn accounts for some customers.
The bank said it was it aware “some customers are seeing duplicate transactions from payments,” on social media platform X as of 9:52am AEDT.
“We are working to reverse these transactions as a matter of urgency and any fees charged will be refunded.
“We’re sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for being patient with us.”
One customer called the error “absolutely unacceptable” on social media.
“Duplication of multiple transactions leaving many of Australians in the negative balance. In a cost of living crisis,” they wrote on X.
“You better have a good explanation and compensation for this one.”
Another said they had been at the pharmacy to buy medication when they noted five duplicate transactions.
The ABC has contacted Commonwealth Bank for comment.
