Celebrity Big Brother star Michael Fabricant nominates Pasty Palmer for asking why he wears a blonde wig as he admits ‘I don’t like to talk about it’

Celebrity Big Brother star Michael Fabricant nominated Patsy Palmer in Thursday’s episode after she asked ‘why he wears a wig’.

The former MP for Lichfield, 74, seemed taken aback as the EastEnders star probed his infamous hairdo.

‘Michael is there a reason that you wear that? That you wear a wig?’ Patsy asked the politician, before he replied: ‘I just have always had long blonde hair so I just feel comfortable.’

‘Yeah, so not because you are bald or?…’ Patsy continued to probe, to which Michael said: ‘No not particularly no, just because I’m… I don’t particularly like talking about it but it’s just how I want to be. It’s part of me.’

Patsy went on to ask how long his hair was previously and Michael insisted it was always long and blonde, not ginger.

The exchange appeared to be a soft spot for Michael, who later nominated Patsy for eviction.

In the diary room, he said: ‘I really have found ti very hard but I’m going to nominate Patsy.

‘She asked me something about “Why do I wear a wig?” and you know, I’m not saying it is a wig, actually, but what I am saying is I found it slightly awkward being asked about it. I just don’t like my hair being raised.

‘People have, you know, sensitivities and that’s my sensitivity. Look, we’re all human. I’m more human than most.’

The exchange came just two days after drag queen Danny Beard took a swipe at Michael’s hair during Tuesday night’s episode.

As the excited housemates jumped up to explore the outdoor space, 32-year-old drag star Danny couldn’t resist taking a playful jab at 74-year-old former MP, exclaiming: ‘Who’s getting in the hot tub? Come on, Michael, we’ll take our hair off!’

Entering the house on Monday, Michael doubled down on his decades-long insistence that his blond hair is real in his introduction.

Noting that he’s been asked many times whether it’s a wig, he insisted that his hair was fully his own.

No images exist from his childhood, and all snaps taken throughout his career show him sporting the same Boris Johnson-esque barnet.

Michael previously offered insight into his attempts to find love, making a toe-curling appearance on First Dates back in 2017.

The politician admitted even he has been left ‘cringing’ by his stint on the show.

Michael appeared on a charity special on First Dates in aid of Stand Up To Cancer, which saw him reveal that he is looking for a woman for companionship, or ‘a bit of sex maybe’.

His date then took an awkward turn when she made a joke about his blond hair, with Michael hitting back at her jibes that he was wearing a wig.

Speaking ahead of his told his date with Jan, a fantasy novelist, Michael told cameras: ‘I think most people think I’m gay.

‘But when you’re a Member of Parliament, if I came out and said what I am – which is probably bisexual – people would say “he’s greedy, he can’t make up his mind!”‘

During their dinner, Jan – who did not initially recognise him – commented on his sexuality and said that ‘the wig is a bit of a giveaway’, before she told him to ‘get rid of it’.

Michael appeared taken aback by her remark, and said: ‘I’m not going to make personal comments about you. I think that’s a rather rude thing to do in a dinner.’

Apologising, Jan said: ‘I did not mean to be rude.’

Michael said: ‘It’s me. My hair is me, if you like it – great. If you don’t – hard luck. I think making a personal remark seems rather aggressive and unpleasant, actually.’

Later during their date, Jan apologised to Michael again, to which he replied: ‘Can we not discuss hair? I won’t discuss your breasts if you promise not to discuss my hair.’

Michael has spoken about his hair once, in a 2014 interview with The Mirror, when he insisted his coiffing routine ‘is a lot more complicated’ than a simple hairpiece.

He said at the time: ‘OK, all I will admit to is that there is some – but only some – enhancement of the follicular area.’

Since kickstarting his political career in the 1990s, Michael’s hair has been a regular topic of discussion, with fellow Tory MP Huw Merriman once caught on camera saying to another colleague, ‘it’s definitely a wig’ when sitting in Parliament.
