Brooke Warne reveals how she’s coping two years on from the death of her father Shane Warne – and if she caught up with his best mate Chris Martin during Coldplay’s Aussie tour

Brooke Warne revealed on Tuesday how she and her family have been coping just over two years after the death of her father, late great cricketer Shane Warne.

The sporting legend died suddenly from a suspected heart attack aged 52 on March 4, 2022, while on holiday in Thailand, and was survived by his children Brooke, 27, Jackson, 25, and Summer, 22, who he shared with ex-wife Simone Callahan.

His eldest daughter told Daily Mail Australia during the Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse that she and her family are ‘going okay’ a few years on from the loss of her father.

‘We’re going okay, we’re sticking together as a family and we’ve got a very good support base… and I’ve got a wonderful boyfriend of five years,’ she said, referring to her partner Alex Heath who attended the races with her.

The digital creator went on to say that in honour of her late father she would be ‘backing [horse] Warnie in the race at 5:15pm’ during the Melbourne Cup.

Brooke also gushed over her ‘wonderful’ long-term boyfriend and agreed Shane would be ‘so proud’ of their relationship.

The pair made a gorgeous couple during the Melbourne Cup as Brooke donned a stunning red dress by Effie Kats with matching Lana Wilkinson pumps.

She elevated her look with her mother’s Burberry handbag before slicking her blonde tresses back with a red headband.

Meanwhile, her boyfriend Alex dressed ‘head-to-toe’ in Zara with R.M.Williams boots.

‘This is my partner Alex, he’s dressed himself today,’ Brooke said proudly as she showed her partner off on her arm during the eventful day.

Brooke also revealed to Daily Mail Australia that she caught up with her father’s best mate Chris Martin while he toured Down Under with his band Coldplay.

‘We had a lovely time with Chris. It was fantastic,’ she said of his most recent visit after attending one of the UK rocker’s concerts at Marvel Stadium last Wednesday.

Coldplay honoured cricketer Shane during the show while Brooke and her brother Jackson were in the sold-out crowd, as Chris dedicated the band’s hit song Sparks to the late legspinner.

Chris and Shane developed a close friendship through the years, bonding over their shared love of sports and music.

Shane was often seen at Coldplay concerts, and Chris publicly acknowledged their friendship, describing the sportsman as a warm, supportive friend.

Their connection extended beyond social events, with Chris even performing a heartfelt tribute to Shane following his unexpected passing in 2022.

‘Let’s play this for Shane and his family,’ Chris said last week as his band began to perform Sparks.

‘Our brother, we miss you. Every time we come to Melbourne, it used to be fun to hang out with Shane and all the Warne family.

‘I don’t want to talk about it too much or I’ll start to cry.’

Later, at the Brit-rocker’s second gig in Melbourne, Chris made another touching gesture.

At the end of the show, after the band had thanked the audience, the singer revealed a Melbourne Stars jersey with Shane’s iconic No.23 on the back, showing it to the crowd before hanging it on his microphone stand.

‘So good to see Chris Martin reppin’ the Stars jersey last night in memory of his great mate Shane Warne,’ the Melbourne Stars posted on social media platform X.

Shane joined the Stars in the inaugural season of the Big Bash League (BBL) in 2011, bringing experience and star power to the team.

He played two seasons with the Stars, contributing both as a bowler and mentor before retiring from all formats in 2013.

It is not the first time that Coldplay and Chris have honoured the Aussie cricket hero.

Chris played the band’s hit single Yellow during the cricketer’s memorial at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in March 2022.

He also played an original song that he wrote on tour in Australia, which he also dedicated to Shane.
