The government of Nauru has agreed to settle members of the NZYQ cohort, according to Australian Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke.
The cohort of non-citizens, some with criminal histories, was released from immigration detention following a High Court order in late 2023.
Mr Burke said Nauru had approached the Australian government to form an arrangement, and had already issued visas to three individuals, who had been detained awaiting transfer.
He suggested Nauru would likely grant further visas to members of the cohort and that he anticipated a court challenge to the arrangement.
