Manchester United are set to watch two prospective new strikers during the international break – including Ipswich star Liam Delap. The Red Devils appear to be in the market for a new forward this summer amid their goalscoring woes this term.

United have only scored 37 goals in the Premier League this term, 32 fewer than league-leaders Liverpool and will hope to solve that issue under Ruben Amorim. As such, a new striker is on the agenda with Rasmus Hojlund the club’s only out-and-out option currently.

Ipswich striker Delap will take on Hugo Ekitike when England’s under-21 side face France on Friday night. United have been credited as admirers of both.

United will be keeping an eye on the clash, along with a whole host of clubs, according to the Mail. Delap has continued to enhance his reputation since departing Manchester City, while Ekitike has bagged 19 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt this term.

United already have a four-man shortlist, with Ekitike joining RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, Victor Osimhen and Sporting CP ace Viktor Gyokeres. It has previously been suggested the club could turn to Delap due to the difficulty of signing Gyokeres.

Delap has also drawn interest from the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham, while Manchester City are said to have a buy-back clause. Delap, who will be expected to leave Ipswich should they be relegated, is paying a possible move no mind.

“I’m so happy here, I’m enjoying it so much here. I just look forward to playing football. I take every game as it comes and focus on the next,” he told the East Anglian Daily Times last month.

“It [the media speculation] is something that I try and stay away from. People around me have told me to stay away from it, it’s something that I’m very good at in focusing on what I want to do. That’s playing football here.

“I’m really enjoying my time here and I enjoy playing every week. That’s the most important thing.

“We know, as players and people, that there is noise. If we have a bad game and people are slating us for not performing or getting the right results, we stay focused on ourselves and what we have to achieve.”

Amorim has so far predominantly had to work with players signed for a different coach. United added young defenders Patrick Dorgu and Ayden eaven in January as the Portuguese coach’s first signings.

The club did not have the ability to be more generous in their transfer kitty in January, but Amorim will hope he has more freedom to shape his squad in the coming months.
