In the crowded world of fitness apps, Alo Moves is the one I turn to when I need to be transported. Workouts filmed against beaches and luxury homes – with instructors clad exclusively in Alo – make doing crunches in your living room while wearing pajamas feel elevated somehow. Whenever I don’t feel like working out, I can be lured into doing one of their yoga flows set in a tropical destination. So, when I received an invitation to try out an IRL Alo Moves experience in the form of a wellness retreat at the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, I knew it was going to be a stunning experience. But would it be substantial, too? Keep reading to learn more about my experience at an in-person retreat at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal.

What Is The Reset, Alo Moves Retreat at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal?

The Reset is an exclusive Alo Moves retreat at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal taking place April 3-5, 2025, but I got an early preview. Building off Alo’s first in-person retreat at the resort in 2024, the experience is inspired by The Reset and includes daily workouts, mindfulness practices, culinary events, and wellbeing experiences. It is designed around the 3-2-8 framework, which includes three Pilates classes and two strength classes per week, plus a goal to hit at least 8,000 steps a day.

My Experience With the The Reset, Alo Moves Retreat at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

Since this was my first wellness trip, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Though I’ve worked in fitness and wellness for nearly a decade, most of my self-care activities are limited to an hour and – at most – one day. I approached this experience like I was attending a wellness bootcamp and devoting a block of concentrated time to focus on myself. I was mindful that I wouldn’t be able to completely form new habits, which can take 66 days to be installed, but I did find it enough time to allow me to clear my head and focus on being the best version of myself, as cheesy as that sounds, and plan how to take that into my regular life as a working mom with two toddlers.

One of my first little victories on the retreat was journaling without immediately turning it into a to-do list. Every time I put pen to paper to reflect, I remember the 45 things that need my attention ASAP: assignments I need to complete, which purse I put my house keys in, and an email I need to respond to are a few of the recurring ones. During a sunset beach journaling session, I focused on the prompts with included questions like, “What is a pattern I’m holding on to that doesn’t serve the most empowered version of me?” and encouraged myself to be reflective rather than practical.

The retreat was anchored by daily workouts led by Jade Smith and Bianca Melas, the trainers from the online program. I’m a Pilates princess and have followed Melas’s mat and reformer classes on Alo Moves for the last few years. I love the creative way she programs the workouts and how she manages to get a burn in just 30 minutes. She is a trainer who I keep coming back to and Alo let me know that her 21-Day Pilates Strong workout plan boasts an 84 percent completion rate, so I know I stand with a crowd in her fan club.

The strength workouts, led by Smith, were intense yet fun: think a lower-body burn workout on a boat while whale watching. It was equal parts humbling and awe-inspiring. My glutes were torched from leg lifts but I was so grateful to be in this beautiful situation that I figured I should just keep going. It was a perfect balance of an effective workout followed by getting to enjoy the views from the boat.

As for the 8,000 steps per day, normally, this would be a challenge for me. Since I work from home, my count is usually a quarter of that. However, the resort sits on an expansive 24 acres, which made hitting this mileage a breeze. I averaged over 10,000 steps per day. One of my favorite activities was walking along the beach, which never felt busy even though the hotel was at capacity. On the day we went on an excursion to hike, I took 20,000 steps and really put this grey onesie to the test (spoiler: did not show as much sweat as I anticipated).

To balance all of the movement, there were opportunities to relax. My room had its very own infinity pool, which I never wanted to leave. Yes, everything about this trip was very elevated but sitting in that infinity pool was peak aesthetic, especially with the option to add a floating breakfast to nosh on while staring out into the ocean.

My experience also included a cacao ceremony, which was meditative, though my favorite wellness component was the spa. The quality of a hotel spa is always a factor for me when I travel and this one did not disappoint. I tried out The Awakening Moon treatment which was 110 minutes of pure bliss. It started with a foot massage followed by a seaweed and eucalyptus salt scrub, then a revitalizing seaweed wrap and deep-tissue massage that was just the right amount of pressure. It was total relaxation. I’d go back to this resort just for that spa experience.

What to Consider About The Reset, Alo Moves Retreat

While I relished all of the opportunities to walk around the resort, it is fairly spread out and took me a day to feel confident navigating it. Chauffeured carts can be taken around the property, coordinated by the incredibly attentive staff, if you’re someone like me who gets lost easily.

Who Is The Reset, Alo Moves Retreat Best For?

The exercises can be modified for all levels but are best suited for someone who has experience with strength or Pilates and is looking for a moderate to challenging workout experience.
