Manchester United fans praised Casemiro after watching him brutally call out rising star Alejandro Garnacho during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

United’s worst-ever Premier League start to the season continued as Ruud van Nistelrooy sampled his first top-flight clash as interim boss that ultimately ended with Moises Caicedo cancelling out Bruno Fernandes’ opener.

Chances at the death fell to both teams with Garnacho, Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee all wasteful in front of goal in United’s first league outing since Erik ten Hag was sacked as manager.

Garnacho – who recently finished sixth in the Kopa Trophy rankings for the best players under 21 – has been the club’s most potent forward during a disastrous start to the season, but still needs to improve his decision-making and finishing.

Such an example occurred in the 85th minute against Chelsea when United broke forward on the counter-attack in a three-v-two situation only for Enzo Maresca’s side to quickly get bodies behind the ball.

United’s Argentinian youngster tried to protect the ball as he turned away from goal but instead of keeping possession tried to play a lazy pass back to Casemiro with Chelsea winger Pedro Neto pouncing to intercept.

Neto then skipped over the halfway line and looked to close in on United’s goal, with Garnacho provided a momentary chase before giving up in lacklustre fashion.

An already tired Casemiro was then forced to intervene, fouling Neto and picking up a booking for his troubles before turning to vent his frustrations towards Garnacho.

Viral footage shows the Brazilian veteran screaming at his younger team-mate and blasting him for his lack of effort that also infuriated United supporters in attendance at Old Trafford.

Casemiro could be seen screaming at Garnacho, clenching his fists and then turning to walk away from the 20-year-old while also glaring in his direction.

The youngster cut a shy schoolboy figure after being told off and watched Neto rolling around on the pitch, but later made up with his team-mate at the end of the game.

United fans were keen to praise the former Real Madrid star for his reaction, with one supporter posting on X: ‘Deserved that reaction from Casemiro.’

Another similarly added: ‘Casemiro’s legs may have gone but wow Man Utd need many more Casemiros in their dressing room.’

A third United account wants to see more players calling out similar lazy efforts, adding: ‘I agree. We need more of this from players and the new manager. Too many players not taking accountability for their actions.’

Meanwhile, another supporter slammed Garnacho for becoming ‘selfish’ adding: ‘I’m not even sure they go back to watch their mistakes because they never improve. Next game, watch him make same mistake. Man is becoming too selfish.’

Both players will soon have to get used to increased demands placed on them by incoming manager Ruben Amorim who is tasked with resurrecting United’s season after a dreadful run of results.
